Pods provide an academically rich environment where learning core subjects are taught through engaging, hands-on lessons that build progressively throughout the school year. Learning pods provide opportunities for students to build friendships and develop a rich academic community. Instruction will include language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. ​Cherry Tree Enrichment is a self-directed, student-centered experience where learners can play and explore areas of interest while socializing in a safe environment.  The offerings on any given day will range from science, art, technology, cooking, games/challenges, and physical activities and will be largely driven by the students' interests.  Students can engage in the provided offerings or be free to socialize and engage in self-directed options. It is a place for children to foster friendships while discovering who they are. 

TUESDAY

9:00-12:00 Grades 6/7 Learning Pod Miss Jenny 

$250 month (4 classes / $20.38 hour) + $20 materials fee due to teacher (covers the 14-week quarter)

ELA and Literature Study. Students in grades 6 and 7 will participate in English Language Arts and Literature throughout the entire year. Following the educational methods of Charlotte Mason (not religious), the curriculum will integrate various subjects to provide a relational and engaging approach to learning. The class will cover artist and picture study featuring works by Turner, the Tang Dynasty, Cassat, and Holbein the Younger. Additionally, students will engage in copy work and dictation, explore literature through oral and written narrations, and study poetry through memory and recitation. The literature focus will include the books: A Single Shard, Sarah Plain and Tall, and Ginger Pye. (List of materials and books will be provided when enrolled.) $20 materials fee for the first 14-week quarter.

 

12:15-1:10 Pre-Algebra (ages 11-13) Miss Gina

Learn the basics of pre-algebra, a branch of mathematics that prepares students for algebra 1 and 2. Learn the topics, formulas, examples, worksheets, and FAQs of pre-algebra.

 

9:00-9:55 Writing Fundamentals I (ages 7-9) Miss Adriana 

$92 month (4 classes)

Loosely based on IEW principles, the Writing Fundamentals classes will provide students with effective reading, writing, and communication skills. The class will be tailored to optimally challenge each child at his/her own reading and writing ability. Although varied levels are expected, basic English spelling and grammar skills and the ability to read and articulate thoughts verbally are expected. The class will provide students with the structure needed to develop independence, creativity, and confidence in the writing process. Instruction will include topics such as grammar, spelling, parts of speech, summarizing, outlining identifying relevant details, using transitional words, writing good topic sentences, and producing a focused, short paragraph. Learning how to write good paragraphs with details will lead to storytelling, writing letters, reflections, and short summaries throughout the year.

Let's learn art from the MASTERS as we explore influential artists from various art movements in history (i.e. Impressionism, Cubism, German Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Etc.) In this class, we will be working with paint, graphite/charcoal, pastels, and more!

Come be apart of creating the new BWA Newspaper as we learn the process of developing a school newspaper. Students will be researching stories, interviewing, writing, photographing, learning important design elements, and promoting the final product! 

 

11:00-11:55 Take It Apart / Reverse Engineering (ages 7-11) Miss Cori (FULL)

The perfect class for the inquisitive child, future engineer, and tinkerer.  Each week we will have a new electronic device /machine for them to decommission, analyze, and then reinvent for a new purpose (or put it back together!) Tools and supporting materials provided. 

 

11-11:55 Spelling Games (ages 7-9) Miss Amy 

$90 month (4 classes)

Get ready for an exciting spelling adventure!  We'll play various games, including card and board games designed to target specific spelling patterns that will help you improve your spelling, phonics, and vocabulary.  These activities are designed to foster growth and confidence.  Learn through fun and engaging challenges!

Get outside and into the garden to learn about our amazing photosynthesized friends and all their wonderful secrets and gifts.  We will plant and grow both wildflowers and vegetables and learn the important roles they play in life on Earth.  Some of the seeds and plants will be gifted to you to bring home and enjoy for years to come.

12:15-1:10 Plant Dye Fiber Arts (ages 7-11) (outside) Miss Amy

$92 month (4 classes)+ $20 lab fee, paid to teacher. Covers 14-week quarter

We will use local plants and flowers to create a beautiful range of natural colors, including bright yellows, oranges, deep blues, purples, and rich brown shades to dye our natural fibers and useful, wearable items. The class will cover eco-printing, a technique that uses leaves and flowers to create prints on fabric through steaming. Additionally, we'll explore flower-pounding, a simple hammering technique for creating patterns using flowers and plants directly onto fabric. Experience the magic of this colorful and creative journey!

 

1:15-2:10 Astronomy (ages 7-11) Miss Cori

Reach for the skies as we look at our own planet and beyond to understand our universe and all the activity that occurs within it.  We will take an in-depth look at planets, galaxies, nebulae, stars, black holes and so much more!  Each lesson is accompanied with an engaging hands-on experiment and supporting materials to bring home.  

 

1:15-2:10 Harry Potter Adventures (ages 7-11) Miss Gina 

$92 month (4 classes) + $10 lab fee, paid to teacher. Covers 14-week quarter

Calling all witches and wizards to embrace Harry Potter subjects such as herbology, astronomy, potions, dueling, transfiguration, ancient runes, divination, and more!  We’ll also enjoy Harry Potter crafts and games!  This class is loads of fun for the magically inclined! One time $12 Lab fee required, paid to teacher.

The writing fundamentals class for middle school students is designed to strengthen and improve vocabulary, spelling, grammar, writing, reading, and oral communication skills while covering the fundamentals needed to create narratives and short, structured essays. Throughout the year, strategies such as outlining, revising, rewriting, and peer editing will be introduced to help improve writing skills. During class, students will share and constructively critique each other’s writing. Hands-on assistance and feedback will be provided by the teacher as students complete the stages of writing and are able to produce a well-written composition.

10:00-10:55 Middle School Creative Writing (11-13) Miss Gina

The middle school creative writing class is designed with the goal of inspiring students to develop original ideas and writing pieces. Students will learn creative writing techniques and the skills needed to produce original forms of descriptive writing, poetry, storytelling, letter writing, journaling, summaries, and writing narratives of personal experiences. The class will consist of a combination of structured creative writing exercises and independent assignments, and students will submit a final portfolio of finished creative work at the end of the year. The skills taught in this course will not only help students to become better creative writers, but it will develop the skills that will help them in other courses as well.

Learn about the major organ systems of the human body, their functions, and how they work together. Explore circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, nervous, reproductive, and more topics.

Explore basic life skills such as self-awareness, critical thinking, creative thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, effective communication, interpersonal relationships, empathy, coping with stress, coping with emotion, sleep, and more!

 

9:00-9:55 US States Through Art (8-11) Miss Lindsee 

$92 month (4 classes) + $10 materials fee. Covers 14-week session. 

Take a cross-country road trip exploring each of the 50 States through art, and learn how culture, geography, and significant events influenced American art history. Art projects will be interwoven. 

9:00-9:55 Dream Catchers History & Lore (ages 8-11) Miss Cori 

$92 month (4 classes)

Delve into the amazing world of dreamcatchers with Miss Cori.  We will learn the origin and legends surrounding these powerful symbols and you will create one of your very own!  Detailed instructions and hands-on support provided, as well as a wide variety of materials to use.  One time $10 lab fee required, paid to teacher.

 

10:00-10:55 Grades 4/5 Math Review (ages 9-11) Miss Rose

$92 month (4 classes) 

We'll review 4th and 5th grade math concepts including multiplication, fractions, and beyond.  Students are assessed at the start and grouped according to their level of knowledge.

10:00-10:55 Clay Art (ages 8-11) Miss Lindsee (FULL)

$100 month (4 classes) + $20 materials fee. Covers 14-week session

Let's get our hands a little messy with clay as we make our own pinch pots and other fun projects while we understand how to manipulate clay and the process of drying, glazing and firing. 

 

11:00-11:55 Investigative Science (ages 8-11) Miss Cori (FULL)

$92 month (4 classes) + $10 lab fee, paid to teacher. Covers 14-week session

It’s time to get messy!  Classic science experiments will be performed, and the science behind them will be broken down and explained in a fun, age appropriate and engaging way.  Some of our experiments include elephant toothpaste, lava lamps and snow globes, secret messages, sugar-carbon snakes, bottle rockets and so much more!  $10 lab fee required, paid to teacher.

 

11-11:55 Geography & Cultures (ages 8-11) Miss Rose 

$92 month  (4 classes) + $10 lab fee, paid to teacher.  Covers 14-week session

Get your suitcase packed and let’s get traveling! We will let our imaginations soar as we travel the globe visiting some of the most unique and beautiful locations in the world and learning about the people who inhabit these amazing places. Through hands-on projects, crafts, and snacks, we will gain an appreciation for the rich cultures that exist around us!

12:15-1:10 Book Club (ages 8-11) Miss Cori 

$90 monthly (4 classes) 

Together we will read and analyze content from a chosen book, and discuss how it relates to our lives today.  We will learn new vocabulary and how to break down each chapter in concise, written form.  Relevant handouts and supporting materials will be provided for extra depth of understanding. Emphasis on group discussion and collaborative brainstorming to encourage out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving.  

 

12:15-1:10 Life Skills & Self Confidence (8-11) Miss Rose 

$92 monthly (4 classes)

In this dynamic class, filled with discussion, encouragement, empowerment, and projects, we will focus on problem-solving strategies to use during times of anxiety, perfectionism, life changes, and more. We will have fun working through our emotions through art, discussions, crafts, and stories. Get ready for some self-esteem boosting, confidence-building, and encouragement-filled times together!

Social Studies and Science  

Students in grades 6 and 7 will take a combined Social Studies and Science course for the entire year. The curriculum is based on the educational methods of Charlotte Mason (not religious), and it integrates various subjects to create a relational and engaging approach to learning. The course will cover an introduction to Plutarch, ancient history (from Mesopotamia through Rome), geography with map drills focusing on the regions studied in history, and handicrafts (paper sloyd). Introductory topics in biology, geology, and astronomy will fill the science portion of the curriculum.  Additionally, students will maintain a nature/science journal. (List of required materials and books will be provided when enrolled.)

$250 month (4 classes/$20.38 hour) + $10 materials fee due to teacher (covers the 14-week quarter)

Pods provide an academically rich environment, learning core subjects that are taught in a progressive sequence, while providing an opportunity to build friendships and a community. When your child is part of a learning pod, they will be engaged in exciting, hands-on lessons that will build each week and month for the duration of the school year.  Academic instruction will include language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These ongoing, grade-specific pods will not only meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of your child, but will also provide countless opportunities for creativity, fun, independence, and confidence.  

In this learning pod we will be focusing on the alphabet – working on letter recognition, sounds, blended sounds, and beginning phonics to get your child ready to read.  We will also explore math and other lessons (i.e. holidays, season changes, etc.) through songs, body movement, crafts, and games! 

Designed to support creative expression, social skills, and literacy, this class explores different stories while introducing performance skills in a fun, supportive environment.  Kids step into the shoes of different characters through music, improv and theater games.  On the final day of class, the group will share some of their favorite activities and original scenes from the stories for an invited audience.
