Pods provide an academically rich environment where learning core subjects are taught through engaging, hands-on lessons that build progressively throughout the school year. Learning pods provide opportunities for students to build friendships and develop a rich academic community. Instruction will include language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These grade-specific pods will not only meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of your child, but will also provide countless opportunities for creativity, fun, independence, and building confidence.​

Cherry Tree Enrichment is a self-directed, student-centered experience where learners can play and explore areas of interest while socializing in a safe environment.  The offerings on any given day will range from science, art, technology, cooking, games/challenges, and physical activities and will be largely driven by the students' interests.  Students can engage in the provided offerings or be free to socialize and engage in self-directed options. It is a place for children to foster friendships while discovering who they are.

By studying poetry and quality literature excerpts/short stories, students will enhance their grammar, sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, and creative writing skills through copy work and dictation. They will maintain a notebook for copy work, dictations, and creative writing.​

The students will practice oral narration and improve their reading skills by reading a book together in class and studying art prints from well-known artists. They will maintain a notebook where they can recreate the artwork they observe and record quotes from the literature selection.​​

Learn the basics of pre-algebra, a branch of mathematics that prepares students for algebra 1 and 2. Learn the topics, formulas, examples, worksheets, and FAQs of pre-algebra.

 

9:00-9:55 Writing Fundamentals I (ages 7-9) Miss Adriana 

$92 month 

Loosely based on IEW principles, the Writing Fundamentals classes will provide students with effective reading, writing, and communication skills. The class will be tailored to optimally challenge each child at his/her own reading and writing ability. Although varied levels are expected, basic English spelling and grammar skills and the ability to read and articulate thoughts verbally are expected. The class will provide students with the structure needed to develop independence, creativity, and confidence in the writing process. Instruction will include topics such as grammar, spelling, parts of speech, summarizing, outlining identifying relevant details, using transitional words, writing good topic sentences, and producing a focused, short paragraph. Learning how to write good paragraphs with details will lead to storytelling, writing letters, reflections, and short summaries throughout the year.

Together we will read and analyze content from a chosen book, and discuss how it relates to our lives today.  We will learn new vocabulary and how to break down each chapter in concise, written form.  Relevant handouts and supporting materials will be provided for extra depth of understanding. Emphasis on group discussion and collaborative brainstorming to encourage out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving.

 

9:00-10:55 Crochet (ages 8-11) Miss Amy

In this Crochet class, you will learn the basic chain stitch with a crochet hook to make a valuable and attractive pouch that can be worn around your neck with a long strap. This pouch will feature a buttonhole and a button, making it practical for carrying small items like coins. This fine motor skill enhances concentration, improves eye-hand coordination, and can promote relaxation.

Join us for an exciting journey through the universe; in this fun and interactive class, young explorers will discover the wonders of space, from the shimmering stars to the magnificent planets. Each session will spark curiosity through hands-on activities, engaging stories, and fascinating facts about our solar system, galaxies, and beyond. Students will learn about the phases of the moon, the life cycle of stars, and how to identify constellations in the night sky.

Calligraphy is the art of beautiful writing. We will focus on two types of calligraphic lettering, primarily in the Italic style. You will learn capital and lowercase letters. Additionally, you will learn how to create simple yet stunning borders for your pages. Each student will have the opportunity to illuminate (decorate with colors and gold leaf) a capital letter, which can serve as the first letter of a paragraph they will compose.

 

11:00-11:55 Quick and Clean Cooking II (age 8-11) Miss Gina

$92 month + $20 material fee, paid to teacher. Covers 11-week session

Learn to create quick, healthy meals and snacks with minimal prep and mess.  We will incorporate raw and some cooked foods.  Plan to prep, chop, cook, and eat your delicious creations. We will create a take home recipe of our menu!

Cursive is simply the joining of printed letters. This class aims to help you to write in cursive quickly! You will learn capital and lowercase letters, with specific letters grouped for easier learning and mastery. This is a fun way to learn cursive!

In our 'Famous Artists' module, we will learn about renowned figures in the art world and engage with their styles and techniques. This will not only broaden our understanding of art history but also inspire our own artistic creations. We will create pallet books using various mediums (such as watercolor and oil pastels), which students can take home at the end of the class. Lab fee TBD

Get outside and into the garden to learn about our amazing photosynthesized friends and all their wonderful secrets and gifts.  We will plant and grow both wildflowers and vegetables and learn the important roles they play in life on Earth.  Some of the seeds and plants will be gifted to you to bring home and enjoy for years to come.

 

1:15-2:10 Harry Potter Adventures (ages 7-11) Miss Gina 

$92 month + $10 lab fee, paid to teacher. Covers 11-week quarter

Calling all witches and wizards to embrace Harry Potter subjects such as herbology, astronomy, potions, dueling, transfiguration, ancient runes, divination, and more!  We’ll also enjoy Harry Potter crafts and games!  This class is loads of fun for the magically inclined! $12 lab fee, paid to teacher.​​​

The writing fundamentals class for middle school students is designed to strengthen and improve vocabulary, spelling, grammar, writing, reading, and oral communication skills while covering the fundamentals needed to create narratives and short, structured essays. Throughout the year, strategies such as outlining, revising, rewriting, and peer editing will be introduced to help improve writing skills. During class, students will share and constructively critique each other’s writing. Hands-on assistance and feedback will be provided by the teacher as students complete the stages of writing and are able to produce a well-written composition.

The middle school creative writing class is designed with the goal of inspiring students to develop original ideas and writing pieces. Students will learn creative writing techniques and the skills needed to produce original forms of descriptive writing, poetry, storytelling, letter writing, journaling, summaries, and writing narratives of personal experiences. The class will consist of a combination of structured creative writing exercises and independent assignments, and students will submit a final portfolio of finished creative work at the end of the year. The skills taught in this course will not only help students to become better creative writers, but it will develop the skills that will help them in other courses as well.

Explore our wonderful country and learn ​the rich history of each region, essential figures in history and monumental moments in time.  We'll spend time in California to appreciate our rich history and how this state has to come to be what it is today.

​Each week, we will explore the seven elements of art: line, shape, form, space, texture, value, and color, but this time through drawing and painting. We will create unique, simple, and enjoyable artwork through these elements, applying our newfound knowledge.

We will explore famous poets and their works to understand the different styles of poetry and practice writing our own works, as well as delving into short stories to expand creativity, writing and grammar skills.​

We will let our imaginations soar as we travel the globe visiting some of the most unique and beautiful locations in the world and learning about the people who inhabit these amazing places. Through hands-on projects, crafts, and snacks, we will gain an appreciation for the rich cultures that exist around us!

We will have fun working through our emotions through art, discussions, crafts, and stories. Get ready for some self-esteem boosting, confidence-building, and encouragement-filled times together!

Go back in time and learn about some incredible inventions (and their inventors) that changed history and how we live today.  Undestand the how and why of things created, what went into them to make them a functioning technology, and examine how they helped pave the way for the future.   How did phones start and what do they look like today? What might they look like in 50 years?

Pods provide an academically rich environment, learning core subjects that are taught in a progressive sequence, while providing an opportunity to build friendships and a community. When your child is part of a learning pod, they will be engaged in exciting, hands-on lessons that will build each week and month for the duration of the school year.  Academic instruction will include language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These ongoing, grade-specific pods will not only meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of your child, but will also provide countless opportunities for creativity, fun, independence, and confidence.  

In this learning pod we will be focusing on the alphabet – working on letter recognition, sounds, blended sounds, and beginning phonics to get your child ready to read.  We will also explore math and other lessons (i.e. holidays, season changes, etc.) through songs, body movement, crafts, and games! â€‹

Get creative in this arts & craft class for littles. They will work on various art projects each week that will include planning, drawing, coloring, painting, cutting, and glueing.

 

10-11:20 Pre-K Cooking (ages 2-4)

 $120 month + $15 materials fee (ages 2-4)

Kids will learn how to make simple and fun snacks that are easily assembled by hand. The kids will perform safe, supervised cutting, prep, and assembly.  The teacher will do any hot "cooking" or boiling.
