Middle School Pod (year long class) 9 am-12:00 pm

$35 materials fee to teacher for the 11 week semester, per child enrolled (each day enrolled)

 

Description: 

Tuesday and Thursday English Language Arts (both days): 

Grammar and Writing:  By studying poetry, quality literature excerpts, short stories, and the Paragraph Town textbook, students will enhance their grammar, sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, and writing skills through copy work and dictation. They will maintain a notebook for copy work, dictations, and writing.

 

Arts and Literature Study: The students will practice oral narration and improve their reading skills by reading a book together in class and studying art prints from well-known artists. They will maintain a notebook where they can recreate the artwork they observe and record quotes from the literature selection.

Tuesday Social Studies

 

Geography:  Students will maintain a notebook for mapping different regions using Mapping the World with Art.  They will learn geographical terms, tools and practice map study to remember countries and major landmarks in every continent. Along the way they will explore different cultures or historical figures to be highlighted in their notebook.

 

Thursday Science

Life, Physical and Earth Science will be explored.  Each will be the focus of a quarter.  Life science will cover cells, organisms, and ecosystems.  Physical science will emphasize energy, motion, forces and basics of the periodic table.  Earth Science will touch on structure/plate tectonics, climate, weather, and solar system.  Students will maintain a science notebook for drawings or lab/project write ups.

The children will learn all the kindergarten greatness academically, socially and creatively.  We will explore letters, numbers, reading, introduction to science and history, movement, music, outside time, snacks, structure and following directions.

Cherry Tree STEAM Pod is a teacher-facilitated, student-centered experience where learners explore areas of interest while socializing in a safe environment.  The centers/lessons will span Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, and will include engaging activities in pods such as games/challenges, cooking, building, painting, physical activities, and more.

Aims to foster an appreciation for diversity, build self-identity, and develop an understanding of global communities through an exploration of various cultural elements and family heritage. Students learn about their own backgrounds and the traditions of people around the world.

 

Creative Lettering with Crafts 9am - 55 min Grades 3-5+ / $245:

Miss Jessica

Blends the artistic skills of calligraphy and hand-lettering with hands-on craft projects. The course is designed to foster creativity, improve fine motor skills, and enable students to design and produce unique, personalized items.

 

Intro to Visual Communication 9am - 55 min Grades 6-8 / $295:

Miss Rebecca 

In this class, you’ll learn how artists and designers use color, shape, and images to communicate ideas without words. From designing your own logo to building digital art projects, you’ll explore how design shows emotion, tells stories, and shapes the world around us.

Each week you’ll dive into a new design challenge — experimenting with typography, color palettes, and digital tools like Canva. You’ll also learn how to give and receive feedback like a real designer during group critiques.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Learn the Elements and Principles of Design

  • Create posters, logos, and digital layouts

  • Explore color theory and expressive typography

  • Build your own personal brand and design identity

Requirements: Students will need access to a computer so they can use Canva. Canva is a free online design platform

 Provides a dynamic, workshop-style environment focused on improving core writing skills, building confidence, and fostering a love for writing. The class emphasizes the writing process—from brainstorming and drafting to revising, editing, and publishing—across various genres. 

 

US Geography 10am - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $245:

Introduces the diverse physical landscapes, human populations, and economic regions of the United States. The class aims to build foundational map skills and foster an appreciation for the country's geographic features and cultural diversity. + $15 material fees to be paid to the teacher on the first day of class

Beginner Sewing, Hand and Machine 10am - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $245:

Miss Marilyn

Introduces students in grades 3 through 6 to the creative, lifelong skill of sewing. Participants will learn basic hand-sewing techniques and the fundamentals of operating a sewing machine in a fun, supportive environment. Students will need to bring their own sewing machine to class.

Cooking II 11am - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $255:

Miss Gina 

Through hands-on activities, young chefs will build confidence, learn about nutrition, and develop essential life skills like following directions, measuring accurately, and working as a team. This class will turn cooking from a chore into a creative and rewarding experience. + $35 material fee, to be paid to the teacher on the first day of class.

Provides an exciting, project-based environment where students actively engage in hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities. Entrepreneurship 12:20pm - 55 min Grades 5-8 / $255:

Introduces fundamental business concepts in a fun, practical, and hands-on way. The goal is to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, teaching valuable skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, financial literacy, and the basics of running a small business.

 

Creative Confidence and Self-Expression 12:20pm - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $255:

Dr. Kate Klein, Ph.D. 

In this fun and uplifting class, kids explore who they are and learn to express themselves with confidence through art, storytelling, movement, and simple creative activities. Each week blends hands-on projects with gentle social-emotional learning to help children build self-esteem, communicate feelings in healthy ways, and discover their unique voice.

Students will create comics, pattern art, kindness postcards, nature-inspired drawings, and more—all while practicing teamwork, courage, mindfulness, and positive self-talk. This class is designed to be encouraging, imaginative, and accessible to all kids—no art experience needed. A wonderful way for children to grow creatively and emotionally in a supportive group environment.

Serves as a foundational course designed to bridge the gap between elementary arithmetic and abstract algebraic thinking. The goal is to build a strong understanding of core concepts, preparing students for success in future math courses.

An engaging introduction to the world of work, designed to broaden horizons, spark curiosity about different professions, and help students understand the connection between their interests and future career paths. The class focuses on exposure, skill identification, and the value of all types of work. 

 

Life Skills 1:20pm - 55 min:  

Designed to equip young adolescents with the practical knowledge, essential competencies, and decision-making abilities needed to navigate the challenges of daily life, foster independence, and prepare for a successful transition into high school and beyond.

Mindfulness: Calm, Focus and Kindness 1:20pm - 55 min Grades 3-5 / $255:

In this program, students learn fun and practical mindfulness skills to help them feel calmer, more focused, and kinder — both to themselves and others. Through breathing exercises, movement, creative activities, and games, children discover how to manage big emotions, handle stress, and build inner peace. Each week introduces simple tools they can use at home and school to increase focus, confidence, and emotional well-being — all in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The class is structured to meet developmental needs across different age groups, focusing on building foundational habits in earlier grades and refining advanced techniques in middle school.

Young performers will explore the world of acting, storytelling, stage production. Through fun activities and interactive games, students build their confidence, enhance their communication skills, and work collaboratively with peers. Join us for an exciting journey the magic of theatre!

Offers students an engaging opportunity to explore a variety of high-quality children’s literature in a supportive and fun environment. Through shared reading and guided discussions, students build comprehension, strengthen reading confidence, and develop essential communication skills.  Activities such as drawing, writing responses, or themed games are interwoven.

Multiplication and Division 9am - 55 min Grades 3-5 / $245:

For students in grades 3 through 5, it provides a deep dive into these fundamental operations, building a solid foundation for all future math concepts. The curriculum progresses from understanding the basic concepts to mastering fluency with facts, exploring strategies for multi-digit calculations, and applying these skills to solve real-world problems. 

 

Drawing and Painting 9am - 55 min Grades 3-5 / $245:

Miss Amy

In this class, students will explore color, line, and imagination through fun painting and drawing projects. They’ll learn new techniques while discovering their own unique artistic style. Everyone will leave each session proud of what they created!

Handicrafts 10am - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $245:

Miss Amy

In this class, students will make fun, foldable cards that open to reveal little surprises inside, like tiny books or secret messages. They’ll learn simple folding, cutting, and decorating techniques while designing their own creative stories or characters. Kids will get to share their imaginative creations and take home unique cards they made themselves. In Addition, students will learn the basics of knitting or crocheting while making small, simple projects they can finish and take home. They’ll practice patience, creativity, and hand–eye coordination in a relaxed, encouraging environment. This class is all about trying something new and having fun with yarn!

 

Ancient Civilizations 10am - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $245:

Take an exciting journey back in time to explore foundational human societies across the globe. The class aims to ignite curiosity about history, geography, and culture by studying how early civilizations lived, worked, and shaped the modern world. +$15 material fees due to the teacher the first day of class.

 

PE and Health Science 10am - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $245:

An integrated course designed to promote physical fitness, educate students on healthy lifestyle choices, and develop essential motor skills. The class balances active participation in physical education with interactive lessons on nutrition, hygiene, and the basics of human biology.

Ceramics and Pottery (beginner-friendly) 11am - 55 min Grades 4-7 / $260: 

Miss Amy 

In this beginner-friendly class, students will explore the basics of working with clay through simple, hands-on projects. We’ll experiment with shaping, pinching, rolling, and adding texture to create small pieces kids can be proud of. The focus will be on creativity, trying new things, and having fun as we learn together.

 

Creative Writing 11am - 55 min Grades 3-6 / $245:

Miss Gina

Provides a stimulating environment that sparks imagination, develops narrative skills, and finds joy in putting thoughts into words. The class encourages students to experiment with different genres and techniques while building the confidence to share their original stories and poems.

 

Physics for Kids 11am - 55 min Grades 3-5 / $245:

Introduces the fundamental concepts of how the world works through fun, hands-on experiments and engaging projects. The class moves beyond abstract theory, focusing on core physical science principles like motion, energy, sound, light, and electricity using everyday materials. +$25 material fees due to the teacher the first day of class.

This hands-on science course is designed for students in grades 5 through 7, providing an engaging environment where curious minds can explore core scientific principles through experimentation and inquiry. The "lab" format moves beyond a textbook approach, focusing instead on active investigation and real-world application. +$25 material fees due to the teacher on the first day of class.

This introductory Algebra class is designed for motivated students who are ready to transition from arithmetic to abstract mathematical thinking. The course provides a strong foundation in pre-algebra and introductory algebra concepts, preparing students for success in future high school math courses.

Provides students with essential communication skills, helping them build confidence in both preparing and delivering presentations. The class focuses on structuring clear, impactful messages and on overcoming anxiety about speaking in front of an audience.

Introduces students to the foundational concepts and skills they need to understand the shapes, structures, and spatial relationships that form the basis of mathematical thinking. Offers students a dynamic introduction to the key events, people, and ideas that have shaped the United States. Through engaging lessons, primary sources, hands-on activities, and thoughtful discussions, students develop foundational historical knowledge and critical-thinking skills.  

Students will analyze maps, documents, and other historical sources, understand multiple perspectives on historical events, and make connections between the past and the present, communicate ideas clearly through discussion and creative projects

This course is designed to build curiosity, strengthen historical awareness, and help students appreciate the diverse stories that make up the American experience. +$15 material fees due to the teacher the first day of class.
